FAQs

What type of roles do you recruit for?

Software Engineers, Product Managers, Product / UI / UX / Digital Designers, Leadership and Operations roles from Mid level up to Heads of & C Suite

Do you work outside startups?

I have recruited for companies of all sizes, from digital agencies up to consultancies like BCGDV and The Sydney Opera House. Most of my recent clients and network are in startup or scale-up companies.

Can you help me find a job?

This can depend on the current engagements I have with my clients. If I’m working retained roles and I’m at capacity then I may not be able to help you find roles like another agency recruiter might. Do get in touch and if I don’t have anything immediately to run past you, I get your details so I can get in touch when I do.

Do you work internationally?

Yes, I have placed many roles in NZ, USA & Canada but Australia is my focus.

Embedded recruiter vs agency recruiter?

An embedded recruiter work like an employee or representative of a company and can publicly promote the company and the role openly, usually working on a monthly rate & have exclusive ownership of the role. In this arrangement I can also advertise a role and screen applications, post about it on LinkedIn and handle screening calls for your inbound leads so there is extra time saved by having one person run the role.

Agency recruiters usually work on what’s called a contingency basis which means they only get paid if they place the role, so they can’t say the company name as they risk someone applying directly or another recruiter picking up the role. This can be a common frustration of candidates when recruiters won’t give them the name of the company they are approaching them about.

Do you offer retained search?

Any, I’ve worked with Pre seed through to Series D and I have different ways of working to suite the different stages, needs and budgets of each stage.

What stage companies do you work with?

Yes, this is often a popular middle option between embedded recruiter and agency recruiter. I work the role exclusively and payment is broken down into project stages & in exchange for your commitment to the search and process, the fee is lower than the agency style engagements.

How are you different from other recruiters?

  1. I’ve worked in house at startups and across the strategy of hiring well. So while I can headhunt and find you the best people like a good recruiter can, I can also look and and advise on your hiring process and approach

  2. I don’t oversell a company or a role to candidates and I don’t oversell candidates to my clients to make a quick buck

  3. I am not pushy and I won’t try and talk you into a hire or a role that isn’t a fit in order to make my fee

  4. I’ve been doing this for nearly 20 years which I don’t use as an indicator that I’m good but as proof that I’m here for the long run and my network is the evidence of that

  5. 50k + followers on LinkedIn (and 16k newsletter subscribers) is the most wanky thing I will ever say and it makes me embarrassed to say but it is the extra difference as it allows me to reach more people faster to promote your roles. Every time I share a role that I’m hiring for, I receive DMs and referrals.

  6. I pay / reward you well for referrals for clients and candidates
